We employ a diverse group of highly accomplished tutors who take a genuine interest in each student with whom they work.  We offer tutors who specialize in most coursework including test preparation, Math, English, History, Language, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Study Skills.  All of our tutors are carefully chosen and share a genuine love of teaching and connecting with students.

Teresa Peachey  

Teresa is a Washington, DC area native. She graduated from Catholic University with a B.S. (cum laude) in Physics and from the University of Maryland, College Park with an M.S. in Meteorology. She has 14 years of experience in software development for NOAA and the National Weather Service. She has worked for Prep Tutors since 2005. Besides science and math, Teresa enjoys trivia, and once appeared on Jeopardy! She lives with her husband and two sons in Silver Spring, MD

   
Rachel Flynn  

Rachel is a San Francisco native and graduated magna cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis in 2004 with degrees in history and Middle Eastern studies. She spent two years working for the Brookings Institution where she first managed the Center for Executive Education and later worked in corporate and foundation relations for the Global Economy and Development program. In the fall of 2008, she began a two-year graduate program in international development at the George Washington University, where she is specializing in natural resource management. She also works part-time at an international development firm and teaches 5th and 7th grade weekly religious school classes. Rachel joined Prep Tutors in February, 2006 and has worked with dozens of students preparing for the SAT and ACT.

   
Dr. David Wigtil  

David holds degrees in mathematics and languages, including a doctorate in Greek. He has also taught German, Latin, French, Spanish, and English as a Second Language, as well as university-level Classics and English courses for many years. He has authored two dozen scholastic articles, translated four books, and, like so many others these days, worked full-time for over 20 years in the computer industry as a programmer, systems administrator, and technical analyst and writer. He reads ravenously, holds a private pilot's license, enjoys his grandsons, and spends time at home with his human family plus several dogs and cats.

   
Maureen Heard  

Maureen graduated from Villanova University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Spanish. After graduation she joined a volunteer teaching program called Response-Ability which places recent college graduates in inner-city Catholic schools. Maureen was placed at the Washington Middle School for Girls in Southeast, Washington, D.C. as a Social Studies and Spanish teacher. Maureen completed graduate work at Trinity University while teaching, and she received her Masters in Arts, Teaching Elementary Education in 2008. Maureen has worked with Prep Tutors for the past two years, tutoring students mostly in SATs, ACTs, and study skills. When not teaching or tutoring, Maureen enjoys reading, running (she just completed her first half marathon!), and exploring DC.

   
Shanna Edwards  

Shanna is a Middle East analyst in Washington, DC. She received her M.A. in December 2006 from American University, where she studied in the School of   International Service with a concentration in Comparative and Regional Studies, focusing on the Middle East.  Ms. Edwards   received her B.A. in 2005 from the Honors College at AU, where she was the recipient of the Presidential Scholarship and majored in International Studies   with concentrations in the Middle East and US Foreign Policy and with a minor in Women's and Gender Studies. Ms. Edwards   studied in the Arabic Language Institute at the American University of Cairo in Egypt. She is proficient in Arabic and French.

Celine Tobal  

Celine Tobal has been involved in Education since studying at Haverford College where she tutored in Spanish and took several Education courses. After graduating from Haverford in 2006, she worked as a paralegal for a year at Sidley Austin LLP, tutored, and taught at the Washington Middle School for Girls (WMSG) in Southeast, DC. She left WMSG in 2008 to study Education Policy and Management at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She graduated in 2009 with an Ed.M and now works in Government Programs and Family Connections at Teaching Strategies, Inc., an Early Childhood Education company in Bethesda.

   
Victoria Pratt  
Victoria is relatively new to the Washington, DC metro area. She is a graduate of Industrial and Nuclear Engineering (BS, MS) and is currently working in the nuclear field. She sincerely enjoys tutoring math, including calculus, as well as sciences (chemistry, physics), with previous experience as a tutor during her academic collegiate career. After her exploring her field professionally, Victoria hopes to transition in the next 5-7 years to the education field and uses the opportunity to tutor highly motivated students in gathering experience. Besides tutoring, Victoria enjoys soccer, bicycling and hanging out with her dog, Punky.

Jamie Mandell  

In addition to teaching for Prep Tutors, Jamie is a graduate student in Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. She began taking the SAT and ACT exams in 7th grade and was a National Merit Scholar Semi-finalist. Jamie has taught extensively in several countries and is genuinely passionate about helping students achieve their full potential.

   
Ashley Lewis  

Ashley has been in the Washington area since 2005 when she began graduate school.  She has a Master’s Degree in Political Management with concentrations in Public Affairs and Issues Management from The George Washington University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Women’s Studies from Loyola University Chicago.  She currently works in communications and marketing in the nonprofit sector.  Ashley began tutoring her two younger sisters in fifth grade and never stopped, and specializes in reading comprehension, vocabulary building, history, and US government.

   
Laura Smith  

Laura is a Washington native who graduated with honors from the University of Virginia in 2008, where she majored in English Literature. After working at a civil rights law firm for a year, she decided law was not for her, and left to work in the American School in Switzerland's summer program. Now she loves tutoring in the D.C. area and working in magazine design. For the ACT and SAT, her specialties are test taking strategy and organization, reading comprehension, rhetoric, essay writing, grammar and usage, and reasoning, and she enjoys teaching the tests as a whole. She hopes to tutor for the next couple years and then apply to English doctorate programs.
